Exchange Student from Zhengzhou, China

Karen Zhao

Ms. Zhao Keran(Karen), a smart 8th grader from Zhengzhou, Henan, came to Los Angeles on May 2, 2014. She is about to become a 9th grader after the summer break at one of the elite high school in Zhengzhou. She decided to come here because she wanted to improve her oral English and experience American cultures.

USEF coordinated with local schools and families in order to provide a nice stay for Karen Zhao. She stayed with a local American host mom Ann-Marie in Pasadena for one and half month. During her stay, She attended a local high school and experienced American high school classes first hand. American host family also provided her a comfortable living environment where she learned a lot about their family life and American cultures.

Ms. Wang huaxing who is Zhao Keran’s mother praised her short experience in the States. “It is the most memorable experience for my daughter at this young age. She learned so much and changed a lot when I meet her again. She feels more confident and open minded!” Ms. Wang huaxin came to Los Angeles in June and met with American host family in person. Ms. Wang is the deputy director at Henan Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs.
